Otatomarinuma Pond

With a guide from Rishiri Hana Guide Club picking me for half day trip to Otatomarinuma Pond (or marsh) not sure which is correct. "Otato" in Ainu language means sand, "marinuma" means fishing port (Ainu are indigenous people of Japan). Even if it's late the guide expertly pointed out different endemic flowers, plants, trees of the area (in Japanese). The hike itself is not hard and we had all the place to ourselves due incoming typhoon and inclement weather. The flowers are almost gone and it is not yet autumn so not so colorful as one might expect. There are eateries and shops, almost closing up due few tourists I suppose and we were lucky as most of the shops offered us tidbits of free food and free ice cream cone, etc.

透明な水をたたえた沼です。The marsh filled with clear water.
沼といってもとてもきれいな水をたたえています。徒歩で沼の周りを一周することができます。レストハウスではリーズナブルな価格で利尻の海の幸等を堪能することができます。目に良し、口に良し。 The swamp is filled with very clean water. You can go around the swamp on foot. You can enjoy the seafood of Rishiri at a reasonable price at the rest house. Good for eyes and good for mouth.

    Beautiful scenery
This is a nice place for a 15-20 minute stroll around the pond. Try to time it to be here when the bus tours are not. Even if you are, most of them do not walk around the lake so you can probably get away from the crowds.
