The bird santuary is good
Visited this last week..the lake is no big deal although if you have small kids they could feed the swans...The wild life centre or bird sanctuary is very good and a nice walk...

Forgettable
Again, I've noticed that Japanese reviewers tend to be over-exuberant with their descriptions that is far from reality. Lake Utonai has far more potential than its current state of deterioration and neglect. Only the entrance area to the lake has a couple of yatai selling snacks, takoyaki and grilled oysters and hotate. There's a small restaurant next to a souvenir shop. But that's all there is to it. The lake is ordinary and the nature trails are hardly visited or spruced up. I took one of the trails as far as the Nature Centre, tucked deep into the woods and about 1 km away from the entrance area. Imagine the potential if this also comes with an alfresco restaurant / bar / cafe or pub. Now in its current state, the Nature Centre can at best be described as 'lost'.
