根室半島の付け根にある周囲約１５キロの汽水湖です。道の駅スワン44根室を過ぎるとアーチが美しい温根沼大橋に到着します。この橋の右手に広がる沼が温根沼となります。干潮時は沖合まで砂州が開け、貝類が取れるそうです。
