Rent a bike, it is the place you want to hiking around or biking. There is a special bicycle path from downtown to all the lake side and abashiri lake. Peddling on it, you will enjoy it.

Beautiful! But a lots of flies attacking.
This Lake Notoro is really beautiful in Autumn. Best time to go in mid Sept til end Sept. Unfortunately that is a lot of big flies / mosquito will attacking u while u step out from your vehicle or coach.. really can't stay longer to enjoy the beautiful view. U have to quickly see and quickly go off type. Advise: remember to bring along mediated oil coz the anti mosquito repellent also not workable.

Red coral grass (sangoso) in mid to late September
Went there last in Sep 2009 to watch the reddish Sangoso. Passed by this point while driving on the way to our hotel in Abashiri-ko. The lakeside was quiet and no one else was around. Though the sangoso was in deep brown this time, the lakeview was still panoramic.
