Hamanasu Cruise, Hokkaido, Japan

4.0 (11 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Menashi-gun Boat Tours

Superb! Whale watching.

We were told that the percentage which we can meet whales is 50% of this season. It was lucky that our boat was so close to the whale. They will go under the water and next chance we can meet the will be 40 minutes later, but most of the case, they will go beyond invisible boarder of Russian.

No luck with whales but plenty of dolphins
This trip started well. We were all given life jackets and raincoats and there was plenty of space to move around the boat. The commentary was in Japanese, but we were given laminated sheets with details of the various whales that are spotted at various times of year. The staff onboard were extrremely helpful and friendly. We didn't manage to see any whales, this is just down to the luck of the draw, but there were lots of dolphin sightings. What disturbed us that the boat chased the dolphins, spinning around and around in circles and getting ridiculously close to them, to the point that it really felt as if the dolphins were being tormented. Our children were particularly upset by how unfair this was on the creatures. I have never been on a wildlife cruise that showed so little respect for the wildlife. I always assumed that there were rules governing how close boats could get to dolphins, whales etc. I would therefore be very slow to recommend this company.
