The Frankfurt Main Train Station

The Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is german for 'The Frankfurt Main Train Station'. This is where one can get all the trams and S-Bahns. Most importantly this is where one can get the speed trains, Intercity Expresses (ICE) and regional trains. The area inside the train station is clean and nice but outside the train station one can see a different side of Frankfurt, sometimes dirty with people abusing drugs laying on the streets. Although it might look scary for first timers its kind of safe.

    It was ok.
The building is ok and it does offer some restaurant options. But it would be nice to have a few shops other than bookstores, especially for Sundays when almost no shops in the city are open. The area around the station also does not feel safe, as it is very close to a red light district and there are obviously some problematic people around.

    Huge Train Station, Late Trains…
The station itself is decent enough and reasonably easy to navigate but don’t believe a word of the myth that German trains all run on time because three of ours were late - one of which made us miss our connecting Eurostar.! It’s definitely had a massive spruce up since my last visit decades ago but the staff weren’t particularly helpful and it’s in the worst area of Frankfurt. If you’re not flying, it’s difficult to avoid..
