Zhongyang Pedestrian Street, Heilongjiang, China

Loved seeing the artists at work!

I love that this whole city has been turned into a Winter Wonderland! This street is full of sculptors working on their pieces (meaning by CNY they’ll all be finished!) and the only place I’ve really seen what I expected of the ice festival. The street itself is like every other city across China. Tons of commercial and international brand name shops, fast food chains, and repetitive gift shops selling overpriced souvenirs (in this case, mostly Churin food products and Russian tchotchkes). There are a ton of restaurants and bars along side streets, so that’s what I’d recommend if you’re looking for a meal.

    Hotel on Zhongyang Street
We stayed at the JinJiang hotel located right on this street near the start of it. The hotel was nice and and a good price. The street can be walked through in about 20 minutes without stopping. If walking up and down the street while checking out shops souvenirs/restaurants then It can take around 2 hours. There is a lot of similar products throughout the street so take your time to look and don't buy at the first shop yet. We stayed here for 4 days out of a week in Harbin. And most days there isn't many people until after 4pm, we came during a non peak season.

    Nice promenade
A little tacky, but a pleasant walk for a couple of kilometers with restaurants and souvenir shops full of Russian tourist merchandise and baijiu. Crowds get larger in the evening, with a bunch of night markets in the side streets. A lot of century-old architecture, the remnants of the Russian influence Some of it, however, is getting quite dilapidated. City is trying to restore some of the marquee pieces, such as the St Sophia cathedral and the synagogue. Central Street also offers lots of basic hotels in the area for seeing the sights around the city centre. Overall, lots of fun.
