Shipwreck Beach, Hawaii, United States

4.5 (1.214 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Kauai Beaches

Take the long trail hike!

Shipwreck is beautiful but can be dangerous for swimming. We'd recommend taking the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail starting at Shipwreck Beach to the Makawehi Bluff to see the Waiopili Heiau Historic Site. Bring water as you'll get thirsty along the trek.

    Nice to watch the waves
Shipwreck Beach is completely backed by the Grand Hyatt Resort. This does not keep you from enjoying the beach. We were there three times and feel the beach was much less crowded than nearby Poipu Beach. However, the large waves rolling in make it impossible to do to much in the water except surfing and wave boarding. It was nice to sit on the beach and watch the waves roll in and several people trying to surf.
