St. Florian Catholic Church, Michigan, United States

5.0 (15 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Hamtramck Churches & Cathedrals

Beautifully traditional

The church is very clean. We went to an English mass which was sparsely populated on a Saturday @ 4pm. I would like to go to the Polish mass on Sunday and would hope to see the church packed. The windows and altar and chapels are stunningly beautiful.

    Don't miss this!
This is a HUGE Polish church in Hamtramck that Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass during his visit here many years ago. Hamtramck has been taken over largely by Bengali Muslims, and in the past I have heard the Arabic call to prayer being broadcast over a loud speaker system. (City Hall may have put a stop to this, I'm not sure.) But the area is no longer the center of Polish residents it once was. Do visit this church, which like many other Polish churches in metro Detroit, was built by Polish immigrants who mortgaged their homes to help pay for these magnificent churches. St. Florian's is not yet a mere monument to a Polish civilization past; it's still a living parish. But how much longer that will be the case is anyone's guess.

Looks beautiful, smells like a church!
My grandparents were married in this church and my siblings and aunts wanted to see what it was like. We were so blessed to be able to enter this building. The Parish has "adoration" from 3-6 pm on Fridays. After walking up several steps and entering through the massive doors be prepared to be amazed. It is absolutely beautiful and smells like the churches of my childhood. Hamtramack is a very diverse neighborhood and my aunts were thrilled the community continued to look as they remembered from several years ago.
