A totally unique experience!

This is a rare experience to view local folk art where it was created - right in the artist's backyard. We were lucky to meet the artist, and for a donation, were able to view the huge installation from inside his yard. However, you do get quite a good view from the alley, at no charge. If you are a folk art fan, as I am, you don't want to miss this place; it is a real treasure.

    Under construction
I visited last month but the site is being repaired. There is still something to look at but it is not as it was imagined by the artist. The community is replacing the wood and have taken down a lot of the display to make the repairs and additions. I would check the site social media and museum website for updates before visiting.

Interesting, if you're in the area
I was staying in Hamtramck and thought I would take a look. At first I went to the front of the house and didn't realize that you supposed to go to the alley. The gate was open on the side with a "please close" sign on the inside, so I took a few steps in and did a short look around because I felt uncomfortable stepping into someone's backyard. I spoke to some locals later who warned that if you step into the backyard the homeowner/artist may chase you off or ask for a small donation, but no one came out on my visit and I didn't stay long. The next day I visited from the alley and it really is a better view anyway. It was interesting and reminded me of the installations at the Heidelberg Project in Detroit.
