The Mary Rose, Hampshire, United Kingdom

5.0 (5.878 reviews) Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Hampshire Speciality Museums

Outstanding experience – Recommend without hesitation

We did the Premium Tour with expert guide ‘Friday’ Tony who we publicly thank. This tour was well worth the extra money as Tony’s depth of knowledge, humour and keenness to show us interesting facets of the ship, crew life and its history which we would have missed on a standard tour. The best aspect of the tour was being able to ask numerous questions throughout the tour on the likely cause of the Marie Rose sinking, the various trades on the ship and wreck renovation techniques. We recommend visiting the Marie Rose Museum and spending time at this stunning exhibition. You will not be disappointed.

Fab Day out - Tudor museum not just ships - Henry VIII Actor was Brilliant!
We visited as a family of 4 (10 and 8 year old) today. To be honest, although a Tudor fan, only my husband was a ship fan and I thought it would be rather boring. It was brilliant! The Tudor collection of artefacts brought up from the ship and the story these told about Tudor life and the individuals on board were so fascinating. This is the best Tudor museum I have visited. The best bit of the trip for us was the Henry VIII actor who explained how the Mary Rose sank with such flair, audience were engrossed with his showmanship, fun personality and humour. Loved him and even the kids remembered the key facts. The Victory and Warrior were also interesting as I didn't expect them to be so big or have so many interactive elements to keep my fidgety 8 year old happy. There are actors onboard the Warrior also bringing it all to life and you can even sleep in one of the hammocks, feel the weight of the ropes and leather buckets, lift pikes, pull long bows (amazing how strong these men must have been) and so on. Food was really nice and reasonably priced and a quirky extra were a series of old fashioned coin machines at the back where for 20p children could play claw games for sweets, have their fortune told, watch mechanical figures out out executions and play ice hockey from years gone by. Short walk to a really stylish shopping centre too. Visit! You won't regret it!
