Haikou History

Qilou Old Street features a fusion of Asian and European architecture, with touches too of Indian and Arabic styles. The arcade houses are influenced by the overseas Chinese merchants who built them. The ground floor is set back into the building providing a covered verandah sheltering the shops from the sun and rain with the living quarters on the upper levels In the evenings there is street snack food. It's certainly worth a stroll if you are spending any time in Haikou.

    Qilou Old Street is overrated
    This place is great for taking pics but food is not great. The expectations that we had from other traveling sources didn't match what we saw. The restaurant that we were in had other customers smoking during meals which made the experience not enjoyable. Nonetheless, it's good to say that we have been there and done that.

    Old street with european design shops along the street
    Well, it is good to see a European touch in the shops building along this old street. Shops here found to sell various product, there is convenience store, restaurant, pharmacy, etc. One shop sell local fresh drink, I don;t know the name of the drink but it is mixed some local fruit with lemonade, feel very fresh one to drink under the heat of Haikou. One thing, be careful with the e-bikes as they have no sound and many of them running along the street, this street is busy with the kind of bike, be careful when you are walking or cross the street..
