Coffee Lover's Paradise
If you love or even like coffee this is worth a leisurely afternoon out. It's about an hour drive from Haikou. There over 20 coffee shops here and a variety to choose from - larger enterprises with flashy interiors to smaller boutique coffee shops and even a novel coffee shop resplendent with wooden carvings. Prices are reasonable and people helpful and friendly. The Fushan Coffee Cultural Centre is worth a visit. It is a 3 level museum (only 2 levels in use). The Centre gives an interesting overview of the history to coffee in Hainan. Most of the exhibits include English descriptions. There are also a few restaurants (a chicken restaurant and a roast pork restaurant to start) so stay for a meal too!

Be picky
Plenty of effort has gone into researching the museum despite apparently limited resources. Somehow enough funding was secured for a barely functioning '5D' cinema which may explain where the money went. Outside of the museum are enough cafés to keep anyone occupied for about a week. We went in one of the first ones you see and for the price of an Americano in familiar chain stores you get some premixed instant coffee. I've since learned from local people to find the café that actually has 'Fushan' in it's name but I can't vouch for it personally. I wouldn't hurry back but if you're in the area it's a fun little diversion.
