Bomun Lake, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea

Decent area to stay near

We decided to stay near the Bomun Lake area where the better quality accommodations are. Although it was about a 15-20 minute drive to the city center where most of the historical sights are, it was nice to be in a spacious area. Bomun area has newer attractions, such as Gyeongju World theme park and the Gyeongju Expo Park, that really don’t appeal to those looking for historical sights. Most of the better restaurants were in the city also so the only appeal of the area was really the better accommodation and the lake area which was great for morning jogs and evening strolls.

    Great space and trail
The lake is populated with hotels/resorts on one side and has some great natural spaces on the other. There is a very well maintained trail that surrounds it. The water level was low when we visited and would have been more enjoyable if it was higher. There appears to be a lot of water activities that people can try out!

typical tourist resort around an artificial lake
Not worth a visit unless you're interested in resort hotels around an artificial lake. The area is geared toward Korean tourist weekend getaways and conventions mostly. The resort is not close to anything interesting culturally except the food village, which does have some good Korean restaurants. A cultural tourist would do much better staying in Gyeongju proper
