Gwangju National Museum, Gwangju, South Korea

4.0 (29 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #13 in Gwangju Speciality Museums

Good National museum with various exhibits.

C ( 19.08.02 ) This museum was well-managed with various exhibits, garden and roads, I think. The museum was national facility, so free for enjoying. There had many and various exhibits, and beautiful buildings. The exhibits was similar with another national museum, but there had unique atmosphere. Good to enjoy about Korean history.

A small museum ,to give a glimpse of the rich past of the region.
GWANGJU NATIONAL MUSEUM : A Treasure of Gwangju A small museum ,housed in a beautiful old style (Pagoda)two storey buildg in the heart of city, but unfortunately very less public buses pass through this route. The Museum have even prehistoric remains from the Honam region. The artefacts are well laid but here again the titles are mainly in Korean language and the staff deployed cant speak the foreign language- English . A documentary runs on a big screen but since no seats are provided in the mini hall, the visitors are not willing to view the big screen. A spl section to show a no.of antique artefacts, most pottery, gifted by the owner of the Samsung company. The museum has a spl section,in the adjacent buildg, for educating the kids on the museum.Thete are couple of games and facility for the kids,to try their hand at making pottery or Infusing a spirit of curiosity. Outside huge lawns with comfortable benches and hut type structures for the visitors to relax. The entry is free to the Museum and the visitors are allowed to takephotoes of the artefacts ,displayed in the museum. There's no vending machine or a restaurant in the complex. However, there is a souvenir shop, but found the prices of things sold as very high. But wonder ,why this small museum is named as the National Museum.Surely there must be a bigger museum in the capital Seoul.

    Very knowledgeable and friendly staff
The Gwangju National Museum has 4 exhibition rooms on 2 floors. Of particular interest is the Buddhist art hall as many of the relics have been found locally. What sets this museum apart though is the staff. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly staff who are clearly passionate about what they do. On the second floor we received a guided tour by one of the curators who was very knowledgeable. All staff we met seemed to be well versed in English as well. It is free to visit the museum.
