Travel Tips to the Island from Guangzhou.
Travel Guide From Guangzhou to Shangchuan Island Step 1. From Guangzhou south station take the fast train to Taishan. It'll take 1hr to reach Taishan and will cost you seeing 70RMB for second class. Step 2. Once you reach Taishan Railway station proceed towards the Bus station and look for bus no 802 which will cost you 3RMB.This bus will take you to the Taishan City Bus Station.(See Pic 1) Step 3. From here take the bus to Shanzui Harbour. It'll cost you 20 RMB per person.You don't have to buy a ticket as you pay inside the bus.(See Pic 2 ) Step 4. Once you reach Shanzui harbor you first buy the ticket which costs 42RMB one way. And then proceed towards the boarding area. There are 2 lines there one for Shangchuan Island and the other for Xichuan Island. The boats are scheduled every one hour. (See Pic 3,4,5,6) Step 5. The Ferry ride will take you 30 minutes. From the ferry terminal on the Island to go to the Main beach area you can take a bus for 5 RMB or Taxi for 30 RMB. The main beach area has about 10 hotels which are kind of barricaded inside one compound.None of hotels are starred hotels and are priced from 200 to 300 RMB per night. Apart from the hotel price you have to pay 54 RMB at the entrance towards the charge for using the beach area. However there are hotels near the ferry terminal too and they are way cheaper than near the beach area. Anyways it's your call. (See Picture 7,8,9) STEP 6. Ask any taxi drivers about the chapel of St Francis Xavier they'll charge about 50 RMB for a return trip from the Ferry terminal area. However it's important to note that until further notice no visitors are allowed in the chapel. Visitors can only go upto the Entrance ARC near the chapel. On the way to the chapel (See Pic 10) It's a herculean task to get there specially for foreigners because of the remote location and the language barrier.If,anyone is interested to go there, and have any other queries,I'll be more than happy to help.

Eco-Island
The island is one of two in Taishan city. The Island is quite large and has several nice beaches with wonderful sand. The temperature is quite warm and humid especially during the summer months. Public buses on the island are all electric. Golf carts are available as well as bike rentals.
