Worth a Visit from a Historic Perspective but only if you are fit and mobile.
Free entry. Friendly Staff and Volunteers. The exhibits were very well displayed with concise descriptive and explanatory notes. Lots of very interesting little known information which inspires the visitor to want to learn and research more. Exhibits and information from the WW1 to the present day so interesting and informative for all ages. Signage from the car park to the entrance of the museum was poor and confusing and the bays for Blue Badge holders were a long way from the entrance. This was brought to the attention of Museum Staff on entry who agreed and stated they had had numerous complaints of the same issue from other visitors. It was stated the xar park isn't owned by the Museum and is managed by a private organisation. No prices were displayed for parking until you input your vehicle details, (which are captured on an ANPR camera on entering the car park) the only payment machine which again was situated near some Blue Badge spaces but again a long way from the exit. The Tower of London Poppies Waterfall were found by accident away from the main museum and not particularly well displayed from a visual perspective with building structures hampering the view. The coffee shop was adequate but expensive and food portions small.

Imperial War Museum – bringing war stories to life
Imperial War Museum North is one of a group of museums in the UK in which it is situated in the heart of Salford Quays. It offers both an educational and interactive insight on how people lived during the war and the trauma that they faced. This is done through a variety of displays and exhibitions which currently include The Big Picture Show, Poppies and Generations – Stories of people during the Holocaust. Big Picture Show This is a must see as part of your experience. It is done in a cinema experience where it is immersive as it appears on all the walls in the room. It was fascinating and interesting seeing the lengths that people went through to ensure that they still lived at a time of war which was traumatic and scary. The video showed how people went to school during the war. In addition to the scary times they also had great times however they had food rations and would put lithium in a cake. Poppies This is a beautiful and simple display of poppies in which symbolises remembrance of all those people that died during the war whether WW1 or WW2. They give you hope, happiness and appreciation for all those people that died during the war. It is also a great place to take photos with the lovely poppies. Generations – Stories of the Holocaust Generations is a powerful, emotional and gives a fascinating insight in how both families survived and died during the Holocaust. This is presented in a variety of ways including artwork, written stories on the walls and via video. The artwork was presented with so much detail where you could see families that went through these agonising times despite surviving. In addition, the placement of the stories next to the artwork meant that you would not read about the wrong picture. Great organisation. I was also surprised to see how detailed their stories were and it makes you empathise with them. The video was interesting and heart-breaking all in one especially seeing and hearing stories of survival or where families were deported. You also got to know what things they would pack with them in those days which was very simple during those times. Pricing Entry to the museum is free however you must book a timed entry slot online in order to guarantee entry. Facilities The Imperial War Museum has toilets and also has a café that serves a variety of hot and cold drinks including a range of sandwiches and light snacks. Parking You can either park at the multi-storey car park for Quayside Media City UK (formerly The Lowry) or you can park at the multi-storey car park for Media City. You can use a Blue Badge for disabled parking. hat was good about my experience at Imperial War Museum? It was interesting learning about the lives of people during the war. The Big Picture Show provides an immersive experience. The exhibitions are delivered in a variety of forms in which means that you are less likely to be bored. This includes artwork, text and video. It makes the experience more engaging. The staff are friendly and attentive. The museum has great facilities.
