Good drive and fun walk
It's a good enough way tot travel to the top. Just drive slowely and enjoy the view. At the top, you've got a beautiful view of the surroundings. It's very relaxing to have a picknick at the top of the mountain. With little children it is not a great idea tot go walking due to lots of bigger rocks which make it more diffulicult to walk for them. All in all, a beautiful spot where we surely will return for a proper hike.

Day hike from Metzeral
I hiked from Metzeral railway station up to Hohneck via Lac de Fischboedle, Lac de Schiessrothried and Wormsel in 2.5 hours with 950m elevation gain, then back down via Schaeferthal. So, suitable as a day hike. Very good view all around from the peak, though I could not see the Alps nor Black Forest, even though the visibility was good. Was moderately busy at the peak because you can drive by car right to the peak, but the trails were less busy than in the Alps.

Great views for little effort if you park at the top!
Great views for little effort if you park at the top! Even letting the car do most of the hard work, we had a good walk around the summit area and down to a couple of the nearby cols. The views to the valleys in the east are the best, and it is better to descend a little way from the summit.
