    limestone base river
This is the steepest river in Texas and as such is a favorite of kayakers when at flood stage. Normal depth is only 6-12" It is very clean with only one dam at Glen Rose Big Rocks park. Do not get in the water if it is not flowing in the summer due to a dangerous amoeba which has killed a few people by crawling up their nose to cause meningitis. Access points include CR 1008, 205 at Creation Evidence Museum, Highway 67 and at Big Rocks park and Tres Rios (private) where it enters the Brazos. Fishing is nonexistent due to the river drying up twice a year and a dam at Big Rocks which prevents fish from migrating up from the Brazos. Trout are stocked in the lake at Big Rocks in the fall.

    Wade back in time
Shallow rock-bed river where dinosaurs used to tread. For free fun, start off at Big Rocks Park in the river town of Glen Rose. Scramble over the boulders, or just head straight to the river's clear water, soaking up nature. Fun for splashing kids and parents who can sit and let the water rush over them. Walking dam gets you to the other side. Or walk the tree-lined path on the opposite side of the river, in a park with playground, pavilion and restrooms. Nothing commercial here. Just Free Nature.
