PERFECT for dinosaur lovers of all ages - big tracks easy to access
It was a cool (but sunny) December day, and we wanted to see some tracks without hiking too much, and we definitely did not want to get too wet. The tracks at the designated "Main Track Site" are just what we were hoping for. There is a parking lot just past the amphitheater on the main road. The tracks are in a small pool no more than 100 yards down some steps and over a few rocks in the water (rocks are very stable and easy to negotiate). You will be rewarded by being able to view some VERY visible tracks. This is a perfect dinosaur-lover destination. Don't forget to get your Park entry pass on-line in advance. Texas State Parks has a very easy to use web site to use for reservations.

    Dinosaur Tracks!
Beautiful scenery, hiking, fishing, swimming, and dinosaur tracks all in one state park?! What's not to love about that? Just past the entrance are 2 large dinosaur statues that are right next to the visitor center/gift shop. Here you can get souvenirs and rent canoes as well as other items like waders. One of the prettiest places is the blue hole. We were able to hike down to the water and see a few dinosaur tracks here. Pretty exciting! The main dinosaur tracks are further into the park and to me weren't as impressive but it is one of the more crowded areas of the park. If you want to walk the riverbed and see all the tracks you can rent waders from the gift shop or come during the dry season. We chose to just see a few and stay on dry land as it was November and the water was really cold. I will definitely make a trip here again in the summer for a swim and maybe get to see more tracks. Due to covid they are only letting a certain number of people into the park each day so reserving your spot online in advance is highly recommended. Once they reach their daily limit you won't be allowed to enter. It's only $7 per person to enter the park so it's pretty reasonable. You won't regret a trip here. It really is beautiful!
