Satyagraha House, Gauteng, South Africa

4.5 (163 reviews) Spent Ranking #15 in Greater Johannesburg Speciality Museums

Best museum

The best way, to learn more about history of South Africa in a calm environment with beautiful garden and friendly staff and specially tour leader, who will explain the whole house room by room in detail. You need at least 2 hours to fully cover the museum. As we live in south africa, we didn't need accommodation but the place is so much attractive that we decide to reserve a room in future and enjoy the garden and the atmosphere in this place. Defiantly, try the special tea of Satyagraha house.

    This is a wonderful place!
We came from Russia and really wanted to visit it. How lucky that it was open to the public. The staff is very friendly, we enjoyed communicating with them. Here you can learn a lot of details about Gandhi's life and just have a good time, since the museum's territory is a pleasant garden with flowering trees and benches for a relaxing. Thank you for this place!

A most extraordinary place to stay
Satyagraha House is one of the most extraordinary places I have stayed. Lionel and Promise and their remarkable colleagues welcomed me with unsurpassed hospitality and care, graciousness and flair... and delectable vegetarian fare. Tucked among grand old trees and fragrant herb gardens, the house museum is an historical site at which the fascinating friendship between Gandhi and Kallenbach is said to have flowered. However, as a guesthouse, Satyagraha House is a sanctuary in these very difficult times of pandemic. It is a haven which reminds that it is people and care shown that make for an exceptional place. I cannot recommend Satyagraha House highly enough. My gratitude to Lionel, Promise, Lerato, Mr John, Zama and colleagues for a very special stay indeed. I will certainly be returning.
