A step back in time

(Open by appointment only.) The stories that lived (and still live) within the walls of the Lindfield Victorian House Museum tell a tale of Johannesburg during an era that, more than any other, shaped urban Johannesburg as we know it today. A tale of the day-to-day family life and fashion trends, masters and servants, elegance, high culture, high teas, social etiquette and intellectual achievements. The spirit of this amazing era lives on in the museum and visitors not only learn its cultural history, but also experience the ambiance of a bygone world.

    A wrinkle in time
This is one of the most well curated museums I have ever visited. The tour guide, Katherine was very knowledgeable on the history, culture and social norms and mores of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Each part of the house is well kept, with meticulous maintenance on all the curiosities, décor and antiquities. All parts of the house are accurately representative of the time and milieu. As you step into the house and travel through each room you are transported through space and time to an earlier era. In here you can almost smell and feel what it is really like in the Victorian Era. All in all this is one of the most historically accurate and educational tours I have ever been to and I do hope that it stays this way for generations to come.

One of the best Guided Tours I've been on and I love guided tours!
Me and a friend spent a lovely hour with such a lovely and knowledgeable host just absorbing everything in the house. It was such a surprise to see how little we know of our past and also how different they lived back then and still how much we are still like them. She has such a beautiful collection of stuff and it honestly is as close to stepping back in time as we can get right now. If you are interested in the Victorian era, guided tours, antiques or just want to learn something new 10/10 would recommend. Not posting pictures cause you need to go!
