Gorgeous spot to just sit and be!
I’ve been dreaming of coming to the Rainbow Mountains since I moved to China in 2012 and they did not disappoint. Some say 3 hours at the park is enough, but not for me! I love that they have hop on hop off buses so you can enjoy the spots at your own pace. At the first stop (if you come in from the West Gate…No. 2 is what some call it), there is a coffee shop up a ways with great coffee and some shady spots to enjoy the view. At every stop there are food, vending machines, and restrooms. When you buy a ticket, it is also good for the next day (but you’ll need to pay 20¥ for the bus fee on the second day at the ticket counter). You can go in at 5:30 and experience the morning sunlight on the mountains. So gorgeous and much quieter without all the hustle and bustle of the midday crowds. The no. 4 platform was by far my favorite stop on the bus route to just sit and be and enjoy. Definitely worth the trip!

Expensive ticket unnecessary
Scenery was absolutely beautiful. We chose the cheaper of the two ticket options (4 spots, rather than 7, for around 1/4 of the price), and it was absolutely not necessary to buy the more expensive ticket. There was a bit of a wait to get the bus between two of the spots, but that may be have because there weren't many people, so they reduced the number of buses. Had a great time.

Travel There by Bus
There is a bus from Zhangye West Bus Station （张掖汽车站，西环路381号）. They are about every hour or so. It's not the best shuttle bus ever but ¥60 for two people there and back open return is better than paying for a taxi driver.
