4.0 (26 reviews) Spent Ranking #17 in Gangneung Speciality Museums
Historically significant place
This is one of the historically significant places in South Korea. I saw the house of famous persons on the 50000 won and 5000 won bills (Sin Saimdang and son Yulgok Yi I). The place was beautiful with different varieties of flowers. We had a very nice time.

Good place to learn about korean history
We have fun with taking photos with the 5000 Won note and the 50000 Won note, where the statue is present.

Soem interesting history behind the 5000 and 50,000 won notes
The Ojuk museum is the household that was the home of some famous Korean scholars. The man featured on the front of the 5000 won note is “Yi I” (이이). Yi Hwang was a Confucian literate., he was also a respected politician and visionary in the area of national security. The only lady featured on Korean currency 50,000 won is “Shin Saimdang” (신사임당). She lived in the early 16th Century and was at the time and still now a popular artist and poet in addition to being the mother of Mr.₩5000 Yi I which shows her link to Confucianism a major part of South Korean history. The grounds include the gardens and open areas where kids can play traditional Korean games. There are the houses and then a more modern museum with artifacts fromt he period as well as explanation of the art on the currency. Its a 3000won entrance for adults, 2000 if in a group of 30 or more. You could spend an hour or two there walking the grounds and checking out the traditional Hannock houses.
