High1 Ski Resort, Gangwon-do, South Korea

4.5 (4 reviews) Spent Ranking #8 in Jeongseon-gun Ski & Snowboard Areas

Good experience but Crowded

The place was quite crowded with tourist and the renting of equipment was quite a chaos. It was snowing so the experience was not too bad after all .

Decent snow, v nice long beginning slope
We went to High1 the week b4 Xmas. Picked High1 even tho it was the furthest away from Seoul becos of the powder it is famed for. And we were lucky cos it was snowing and indeed the snow quality was gd. Runs were very wide and long. Even tho there were many ppl, the main run Zeus was not crowded. However going in Dec means only the bottom runs are open. We looked longingly at the upper slopes, which looked ready for skiing w gd snow cover (snow machines constantly at work), but the runs open at a scheduled timing, and upper slopes only open after Dec. Boo. So only 2 green slopes and 1 red were open. But cos the runs were so long it was sufficient for us. Love the ticketing system there. U can choose between a 2h, 4h, 7h or 13h ski pass. Depending on how much u wanna ski. Gd for ppl who like to sleep in. But it does not get cheaper even if u ski multiple days. Gotta buy day by day. But comparatively, it is much cheaper than other countries. High1 closes for slope maintenance for 2h in the evening. Which forces one to relax at the cafe and rest aching muscles. Opens again for night skiing after that. Drive there was easy. Highway almost all the way, good paved modern city roads, well salted. It was a piece of cake! There was no longer the ski pass discount for foreigners at High1. And ski rental is ridiculous. U cant keep it overnight and hv to queue to re-hire everyday. After 1 day of rental craziness at High1, we decided to rent from the shops at the village at the foot of High1. Stumbled upon one called Snow Bank (attached their name card). Ppl there were v friendly. Not sure if their equipment were top-notch but gd enough for beginners / intermediates. Best thing was that u can keep it overnight and store it in the lockers at High1 for abt S$10. We managed to stuff 5 pairs of skis into 1 locker. Snowbank equipment hire is much cheaper than at High1. And they got use discounted ski tickets as well. Highly recommended! But go w google translate on ur phone. They barely speak English. But they are v nice. Family run business. I bot a pair of gd ski goggles there too

    Great ski experience
We stayed at the Mountain Condos. Great accommodations. Be aware that rooms have floor heat and the temp runs high. Even after adjusting it stays pretty warm. Opening the balcony doors helped! Rooms were great and had sensational views. Bedding was a bit to be desired if you bring kids. The floor mats can be uncomfortable, particularly if staying multiple nights. Recommend bringing air mattresses for the kids. As to skiing - several options available based on skill level. Experts may soon bore with number of trails, but still alot to ski. They offfer day and night skiing. Show your passport, sign up for a High 1 resort card and you will receive a substantial discount -- 40% -- on lift tickets and rentsals.
