Awesome hike, very beautiful
My boyfriend and I decided to have a weekend getaway at The Goldmoor. We both enjoy being outdoors so even though there isn’t much you can do in Galena at the moment with COVID-19 restrictions, hiking was a good alternative for us. Horseshoe mound preserve is absolutely beautiful and very clean! The drive up to the parking area is a lot of fun too, I would definitely recommend a 4WD vehicle to make it smoother. We both really enjoyed the hike, it’s very hilly and gives you a great workout! There are a lot of amazing views to see at this place. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves nature.

Great little overlook with well maintained trail
Great little spot that gives you an overlook of Galena. Not super close but not super far either. It's a narrow drive up, but once you make it up, you're greeted with a nice stone ring where you can sit and they have stalls pointing you in the direction of the summer sunrise/sunset, winter sunrise/sunset, true north, and true south. There's also picnic tables and a porta potty up there. There is also a few trails. We were the only ones there in the park, so great covid activity. One trail was a loop that's almost a mile long that goes past a nice scenic overlook and also goes up and down the mountain. The trail itself is over maintained grass which is nice. Parts of the trail are steep though which can be tough for some populations, and the grass doesn't help there. There is also some kind of clue based activity for kids, almost like a scavenger hunt. Didn't follow it through though. There was a second trail that was a .2 one way trail leading to another over look that I didn't go down. All in all, it was a great way to spend an hour on a sunny afternoon. Would def do again if in the area.

Worth it!! Beautiful
This was only about 15- 20minutes drive from downtown galena.. ( also has poke stops for u pokemon hunters) Anyways. There is free parking there is a box if u want to donate $ the view from the top is beautiful they have a few free telescope for u to view galena and the surrounding areas. Place to sit and a few benches.. so the paths are mowed down no matter which way you choose to take u will come back up another close path does have steep hills.. it’s only about 1 mile around trip but feels like more with the hills.. nothing to view but forest and open land on trails but def was glad we stopped..there is a port-a- potty on site by parking.
