Canal de Itabaca, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

It’s Just a Canal

The only interesting thing is to watch the tourists coming and going and shelling out a buck to pile on old run down boats for a two minute crossing on the way to and from the airport. It is a beehive of organized chaos as baggage is thrown on top the boats for the quick trip. You are at this point anxious to get on with your journey - whether beginning your Galapagos excursion or ending it.

    Airport Transfers
We did see some wildlife on our way to and from the airport, but this definitely remains a narrow body of water that connects Baltra to to Santa Cruz.

    Cloudy day, didn't see much
We went kayaking and snorkeling at Canal de Itabaca as one of the excursions included in our program. Perhaps because it was a cloudy, windy day, we really didn't see much. Kayaking was good exercise, but really didn't see the sharks or anything below. Snorkeling was okay; saw some fish.
