Impressive red castle

We walked in the nice garden and had afterwards drinks in the restaurant. Which is actually converted horse stables. You definitely need to try the cake, we had a delicious chocolate taste.

Do not miss the Medicinal gardens!
We visited the park at Tranekær castle in July, and we can really recommend it. The park invites to a stroll around the lake (3-4Km). Along the path, and especially if you take some of the small detours, you can study 60-70 different tree sorts. Many of which are not native to Denmark. They're numbered and described in a little guide you get at the entrance. It's a modest fee to get in. Also spaced out in the park are a number of works of art from different artists. Look up TICKON on Internet. Tranekær International Centre for Art and Nature. When you exit the park, there's an interesting little cafe on the opposite side of the road, with home baked cake, buns and jam. DO NOT MISS the so-called Medicinal gardens. Follow the little road opposite the entrance to the park. The road is right next to the parking lot. A group of volunteers have received funding to create a number of 800m2 large gardens containing medicinal plants. The plants are grouped by their function. The first 2 gardens are done at the time of writing (July 2013). There's a voluntary fee of 20,-DKr to enter, but it is well worth it.

Very charming and very old castle
Tranekær castle is a home of a noble family. But in the summertime they perform conducted tours in the castle. This castle -originally built as a fortress- is now a very cosy home and it is actually possible to stay here. -Not as a hotel-guest with a key, but as a personal guest of the count and the countess.
