Aero Island, Funen and Islands, Denmark

What a beautiful place - One of a kind!

I have been to Aero now numerous times and I keep on going. This island has so much culture, beauty and charm and has a strong historical aura. The thing about Aero is that you will have so much peace and stimulation to clear (or reset) your mind in this environment, which I do not know another place that has this kind of charm and nature sceneries. Aero is truly a sanctuary, especially for people who need to relax and enjoy time for "themselves", away from daily distractions and stress. The people are friendly and welcoming, there is no crime and everybody is so trusting and kind. Hard to find these days! I just noticed that the island has its own really elaborate website now at: www.AeroTheIsland.com

Delightful small island southeast of Copenhagen.
Aero is one of many islands off the coast of Funen Island, reached only by ferry, and is a mecca for sailors. There are yachts of all sizes, including many tall ships, sailing these waters, and Aero has several large marinas to accommodate them. The main village is Aeroskobing, and it is an absolute gem, with its cobbled streets and ancient, brightly coloured little houses that open right onto the streets. Many have hollyhocks and roses growing up the front walls, which add to the already picturesque nature of the village. It is a holiday island and many Danes come here to holiday at the seaside, so there are plenty of activities for kids, and there are several beaches, and also some brightly painted wooden beach cabins on a beach at`Aeroskobing, and also at `nearby Marstal. This is a working port, with a shipyard and a marina, and also an excellent boat museum. It also has some pretty old houses and is an attractive village, with a carillon which plays regularly at the church and quite a few other interesting attractions.. The other sizeable village on the island, is Soby, at`the other end of the island (which is very small), although there is not much of interest there except an old windmill. The buses are free on the island, and although they only go every hour, it makes getting around easy if you don't have a car`or a bike. Aero is a great`place for whole families to cycle as it is pretty flat and most hotels and some other accommodations have bikes for guests to use or hire. There is an interesting old manor house and ancient fortification mound just near`Soby, and some terraced cliffs on the south coast and there are excellent bakeries on Aeroskobing and Marstal! We found a 4 day stay was ideal as we didn't have our own transport and were not looking for a beach holiday.
