Taimu Mountain Scenic Area, Fujian, China

Superb and mesmerising views

Not overpriced, and included a long and scenic bus ride to the main gate that goes through steep tea hills, with tantalising vistas of the coast on the windy way. You may also be able to drive it yourself, but it would be tough to find the way. It is not overly touristy, and just has local people with their little stores around the mountain. The rocks of the mountain itself are really beautiful, and there are not too many brutal climbs to get to the top. The whole area is very photogenic, and when you are really at the top, there are some spellbinding panoramas down to the forested coastal bays of Fujian in the background. We had a great day, and pronounced it one of the best mountains we have been to in China in terms of views. Not as well known as many others, so take advantage of the lack of crowds and come to enjoy.

    Place of the Titans ?
I haven’t done much travelling around China, but Taimu mount is the best I have seen so far ? when I was there and just casting my trip eyes around I couldn’t fight the feeling that I was in some fantastic place where some giants played golf and some of their golf balls got stuck on the verge of the rocks. It was soooo amazing and totally gained the top place to be visited in China in my own chart ?It’s not only the mountain walk, it’s also getting down to different caves. And above all, it’s comparatively clean place than the other parts of China - excellent greenery and well-maintained walk-roads made of both wood and stone. There are some temples as well. From the top, you may observe the strictly aligned tea plantations. The place is worth seeing. The walk itself is not hard, can be done with the kid as well. It is better to arrive there by train to Taimushan Fuding railways station (not Fuding railways station!!!). I didn’t manage to find te bus taking people to the base of the mountain, so I took a taxi which cost me 20 cny and the ride took 20 minutes ?? From there, I payed the entrance fee at amount of 155 cny (I am a foreigner, for the locals the cost is 115 cny). From the tourist place you take the bus which goes closer to the mountain, the ride is about 20 mins, no additional fees for the bus rides forth and back. I walked up there and took some isolated routes apart from crowded groups and in 2 hours I was back by the bus.

    Stunning
A really beautiful place. Well worth the hassle of getting there. With the new high speed train it should be easier than the way I went. It wasn't until I got there that I found out the train also stops nearby. From the train station you get a small bus to the village of Qinyu and from there a shuttle to Taimushan. There are few small inns there of not great quality but perfectly acceptable as a bed for the night. There are places to get food, though you will probably have to pick out your dinner from the refrigerated area next door. The mountain area is amazing. Walking up can be pretty hard going on hot day and you do have to avoid the hordes of day trippers from Fuzhou and Wenzhou. There is virtually no English spoken, but folks are very happy to help you out and try to communicate. Some of the signposting is a little confusing and you realise you have gone round in a circle when you didn't mean to, but listen for the megaphones of the tour groups and you find your way back! You can cover most of the walks in a couple of days, but there is plenty of more distant walks if you wish to spend longer.
