The Genius of China's Ancient Engineers

An example of China's ingenuity in engineering...and reflecting the masonry industry in nearby Nai'an and Chongwu towns. Built in 1057 still standing proud. Entirely of stone except for clever butterfly-shaped wedges which have held the stones together for 2,000 years. The pillar-bases are shaped as boat prows so that tremendous tidal currents flow harmlessly by... and live oysters were placed in the cracks so that natural secretions became a biological super-glue! The average tourist is not interested in such things so you won't be fighting off the tourist hordes. Just get your taxi driver to turn off the main road + park for 15 mins while you consider the significance of this humble-looking construction. Live oysters are still being dug up nearby but those are destined for the dinner table :-)

    Here's a bridge worth visiting.
Ive visited (and reviewed) many bridges in the past before, but finally here's one that was actually worth visiting. This ancient bridge is a marvel of traditional architectural skill, a testament to which is the condition in which it remains today. If you have an interest in traditional Chinese architecture and are in the area, then the luoyang bridge is worth a look.

    The Luoyang Bridge
The Luoyang Bridge is located in Quanzhou, local people also call it “Wan’an Bridge”, it means that people who walk though the bridge can be peace and happness. The Luoyang Bridge is the earliest existing cross-sea beam-stone bridge in China. At the same time, the bridge was constructed in a unique way that people used the method of breeding oysters to strengthen the stones. Nobody ever used this biological reinforcement bridge method before this bridge was been build. After so many years, the bridge still stand at here, I think it is incredible. When I set foot on the bridge, the sea surface rough, waves layer by layer hit to the bridge. Then you just stand on the bridge, you will have ofty sentiments. My favorite part of the bridge is the stone tablet that in front of the bridge. Because there is the Luoyang Bridge’s origin and many ancients’ verses on the stone tablet.
