Golfo di Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

Beautiful!!!
What a beautiful area to explore. There is a path all along the water stretching from the port all the way to Miramare and beyond. You can also take the #6 bus from Trieste center to the last stop and walk back. The bus drops you off in a pretty little marina with a very nice little restaurant. Principe Di Metternich is a great place for a glass of wine and a bit to eat while enjoying the water. Look for the giant jelly fish in the water. They are beautiful! The walk back starts with Miramare Castle. Take the self guided tour, 8 euro, and get the audio guide for a few more euro. The house and grounds are worth a stop. Continuing along the path back to town is very picturesque. Once you get back to the street you can pick up the #6 bus again, if you have had enough walking, and take it back to city center.

Astonishing sunsets
This is a truly gorgeous area of coastline, at its best at sunset. Tree clad hills cascade down to the blue waters of the Gulf and if you head up to one of the many viewpoints on the Carso the panoramas are spectacular. The coast is dotted with a series of small villages. Lovely.

Trieste Hidden Gem
We spent 2 days in Trieste to break up our week in Venice. Train connections (only 2 hours one way) made trip easy. Town was not crowded so it was a blessing after having spent a few days in crowded Venice. Hotel was excellent value, and restaurants were very good, large portions, quality food. The Port area nice. We spent evening relaxing eating Gelato watching sunset. The museum of Modern Art worthwhile. We didn't do the Castel Miramare, Tram or Green Dolphin Tour Boat. We just wanted to leisurely walk around town, no more travelling. But if you wanted to be more busy there's plenty of things to do. I would recommend for a 1 or 2 night layover. 2 days would be sufficient to do it all.
