Moving

Definitely worth going out of your way to visit the Risiera di San Sabba. An old rice processing plant turned into prison camp during WWII, the building and museum really convey the dread and the pain that was once there. A place everybody should visit not to forget what humans are capable of.

    Interesting and well presented
Risiera di San Sabba is a truly interesting and recommended visit. For those who are familiar with places like Auschwitz or Majdanek, this is a pretty different type of concentration camp, but nonetheless offering an absorbing and touching experience. The original building has been integrated by modern parts, with a good overall effect. The museum is well presented. The place is pretty far from central Trieste - take a bus or go by car.

    Deeply moving
A former Nazi prison camp, the only one left in Italy, built in an old rice factory. While off the beaten path (we traveled by bus), this was well worth the visit. The place is somber and evocative and moving. The footprint of the former crematorium is laid out in metal slabs. Tiny cells for prisoners stand in quiet testimony to the horrors of the camp. Everyone should make a visit here.
