just a monk
This statue is not very special, but it is interesting because it expresses the importance of the monks for the island. Nowadays, a couple of monks is trying to start a new community.

A bit of history
The statue is in the center of the small town. You can't miss it but it's not spectacular. The history behind the monks (monnik) on Schiermonnikoog is interesting. They wore grey ("schier"), and lived on this island "oog", hence the name.
