Vital Historic Gem of Franklin

I’ve been to most historic tours in Franklin. This was hands down the most moving and fascinating tour. It’s not just about the house, but extends to the surrounding community and generational history in that community (which is tied to our larger USA history) up until today. Christy was our tour guide and she was a walking encyclopedia of Franklin history, she was super passionate and asked questions in the tour guide that allowed you to think through the history. I’m a total fan of hers now. If you go to Carter house and Carton, definitely add on this tour to get the full colorful history of Franklin.

    Fantastic!
As a local resident of Franklin, I would place McLemore House as one of the top places to visit in my hometown. We are an area rich in Civil War history, but it it can be somewhat lacking in the African American experience post war. The McLemore House gives voice to that experience and does so in an extraordinary manner. The stories of this family and their accomplishments are fascinating....and could easily be made into a movie! Be sure to visit McLemore House on your next visit to Franklin.

    Amazing Place
My mom and I, both history buffs, visited Franklin for a mother-daughter weekend. I stumbled on the McLemore House website, and I’m SO GLAD we decided to go visit! It was a highlight of our weekend. So much information that isn’t usually presented elsewhere. Both of us left with plans to research further (not due to lack of information presented, but because it was so interesting). Don’t miss it!
