Slow Peaceful Beautiful Area to Visit in Florida

Visiting Tarpon Springs is a great trip if you are in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. The town has winding roads around several Bayou's that lead to the Gulf. During the winter manatee's are visiting Spring Bayou (the gem of all Bayou's) to snuggle up to the warm spring water. Craig Park has beautiful trees and benches to sit and relax viewing Spring Bayou and some historic homes surrounding it.. You can launch a kayak and travel in calm waters around surrounding Bayou's and end up at the Sponge Dock area where there are restaurants and shops to visit. Tarpon Springs is a charming town, and nice to visit where traffic is slower paced and is less of a hustle and bustle area as most cities in Florida.

    Very Peaceful
This bayou is about a 2 blocks from downtown, (right next to Spring Bayou) and yet it is very peaceful. Craig Park is adjacent to it. Some very nice large live oaks, with branches the kids can climb, and get photos. Lots of good concrete sidewalks, important for the handicapped. There are picnic tables, benches, and seawalls. It has a nice tennis court and even comes with a backboard to play against singly. There is a boat ramp, and many, many people launch kayaks, boats, etc,. One of my favorite places in Tarpon Springs. And as others have mentioned, there are occassionaly dolphins and manatees. So really, what else do you need? Pack up a picnic basket after seeing the docks, and have a leisurely time at Craig Park/Spring Bayou/Whitcomb Bayou.

    Picturesque
Beautiful back bay bayou lined with gorgeous parkland and Victorian homes. If you're lucky you'll spot dolphins and/or manatees lurking in the water. Nearby is where they have the annual "diving for the cross" sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Church here in Tarpon Springs. This event draws thousands just after New Year's Day. Stop in at the Sponge Docks and have a delicious Greek meal while you're at it and make it a day!
