Not sure how to take them

As a southern girl, when my Florida friends suggested this place for a night out, I was a little skeptical. I put on my best cowgirl boots and daisy dukes expecting to feel out of place, but apparently everyone wears here. I was even pleased to see some cowboy hats floating around. Overall, I had a fun time, but there were several factors that give it a lower rating. First of all, while the line dancing is the main attraction, it would be nice if every single song did not have a specific dance choreographed with it. It's a bit daunting to try to learn them on the spot because a lot of them are kind of complicated (sometimes I felt like I was in Footloose). They offer dance lessons at 7 PM I believe, but who wants to go to a club at 7? Second of all, this place was expensive. Being a girl, I am used to getting certain perks when I am out. We went on a Saturday night and had to pay a $7 cover fee. Really?! At other clubs, I pay $3-5 dollars TOPS and that's on the rare occasion when I do have to pay. Drinks were pricey too.

Not quite like the real thing

Not sure how to take them
I am one of a group of girls who line dance at a local bar in Myrtle Beach. We have visited other bars to dance and have always enjoyed our selves. We visited the Waterin' Trough March 20 -22, 2008. We learned several different dances to some songs we already had dances too, but we enjoy learning new dances and gladly took the classes that were offered. However, during their so called "break songs' (which are played in between lessons so that you can do your own thing), the teacher would keep stopping the songs and say, "Oh some of us don't seem to know the steps. Let's walk through this dance." Correct me if I'm wrong but these were suppose to be break songs!! The teacher seemed to keep stopping the song/dance whenever, we got up to do different dance then theirs. This wouldn't have bothered us but it not only happened once, but several times on Thursday and Friday nights. We couldn't believe it. The DJ's said they took requests, and we asked for "Rebelicious" by Jamie Johnson. The DJ played it for us on Thursday. We got up to dance, of course we were the only ones, but a lot of the local's seemed to really liked it and asked us about it. Even the teacher asked our teacher who is part of our group about the dance. But come Friday night, we requested a few songs and the two they did play, which were both country songs, we were called down again for doing something different then their dance. This was getting really crazy! We have never been in a dancing bar and treated like such an outcasts. One DJ claimed they couldn't play anything we pretty much requested cause it wasn't again "a country song". Well let me tell you, there were several songs they played that were NOT country songs. Again, this really made us feel unwelcome. Finally on Saturday night, I personally went and found the manager. That was a waste of time. He was nice at first. I introduced myself, told him where we all came from and that we had heard alot about the bar and wanted to come have some fun and learn new dances. I asked about the DJ's taking requests, and he said "Oh, yes there are slips of paper up there to write what we would like to hear". I told him that the we had someone already go over to request a song and were told that it wasn't country and couldn't play it. He asked me what some it was, I told him "Rebelicious" and he said he never heard of it. And that if it's not country they can't play it. At this point, I actually pointed up and said "we'll what do you call this song playing now? It surely is not a country song." It was club dance music. He just kinda huffed at me and took a draw of his cig and stomped off away from me. What a real jerk! Oh and also, I guess "The Electric Slide" is a country song too? There was this one song that doesn't sound anything like country music to me and was played 8 times in 4 hours. Hows that for changing things up. They only have a selected few songs they can play. For some reason the same songs would be circulated every hour and a half. I just hope anyone who reads this has better luck than we did. The only thing lucky out the weekend was seeing one of our friends who is from our group and have to move to Florida due to a job transfer and the Lucky jeans purchased at the Lucky outlet store. I think they probably clapped when we left. We got the most dirty looks from some people. We are not drop dead beautiful and we do not try to be. We do not show off, we are just doing the dances that we learned. Some of our dances are plain, some have attitude, and some are very hard. However, we are just a group of girls enjoying a hobby. . Oh, but they sure wanted our money for beer! And a few us do drink quite a few beer. I know we as a total (all 6 of us) spent $400.00 in beer, bottled water, mixed drinks and shots. But, I would like to add on a happier note that the girl at the door was the nicest door lady we have ever met. She was real friendly. Also, the bartenders were nice as well as the waitress' and bouncers/floor walkers. To sum it up, I guess we want be going back. Who wants to hand over money, be told what to do, and be treated like outcasts.
