Tigertail Beach

Our first visit to Tigertail Beach. We crossed the lagoon, highly recommend water shoes. Walked down to Sanddollar Spit, found some sand dollars. Saw a couple manatees (mom and baby) being rescued as they got stuck in the mud with the outgoing tide, it was so neat to see. If you are going to cross the lagoon, highly recommend a low tide cross, water was up to my waist at a couple points. Get up early if you want to find sand dollars, sounds like people get up and out early to pick a lot of them up. We saw one lady with a sack full of sand dollars, couldn’t believe it. We found a few, less than a dozen, and we were fine with that. I would like to let people know that when you pay for the all day parking ($8.00 fee), it also includes South Marco Beach and some other beaches in Naples. I wasn’t aware of this, the guy working the gate told us. Please ask Them for clarification. Highly recommend a trip across the lagoon, no gators, lots of jumping fish and birds.

Lovely park and facilities. It's a beach on a lagoon, not on the ocean, unless you walk much further.
My wife and I visited this park on a Tuesday morning in early January 2020. We enjoyed it very much. We paid $8 to park the car, which included parking at the other public-park-beach on the island, South Beach. Tigertail is a much nicer park, but South Beach is on the gulf while Tigertail Beach is on a lagoon. Tigertail Beach has much nicer facilities and buildings, including a good snack bar, a lookout tower (3 stories), and a well-stocked concession stand on the beach of the lagoon, selling small convenience items and renting all sorts of kayaks, surfboards and other water recreation stuff. At Tigertail you can get to a Gulf beach if you walk an additional quarter mile to a half mile beyond the concession stand. At the lagoon we saw nice bird life (egrets, herons, vultures) and beautiful scenery. The place was uncrowded, calm, quiet and relaxed at 11am on a cool January morning. We stayed for less than an hour but enjoyed it very much. By comparison, our subsequent visit to South Beach was shorter and a bit disappointing.

Not worth the 1.3 mile hike…
Definitely not worth the “hike”. I am in shape and use to run triathlons so this isn’t some out of shape curmudgeon complaining. To get to the gulf, it’s a 1.3 mile walk in sand from the parking lot. Unless you want to hang out in the lagoon area which is a shorter walk. Be prepared if you have buggy’s or big coolers or you are out of shape and/or are elderly. Once there, it’s clean, beautiful, and pristine. But here’s the catch. I live here (Bonita Springs) and have been to almost every beach in the area and there is nothing special about Tigertail. Clam Pass, Bonita Beach, etc have the EXACT sand, available shells. It’s just not worth it unless you live or are snowbirding nearby and don’t have a choice.
