See the Manatees from the Boardwalk!

This natural inlet in Crystal River contains three natural springs, with crystal-clear turquoise waters and an abundance of wildlife. In winter, look out for the manatees that migrate and seek refuge in the warm water. Get up close to these gentle giants by kayaking, and even on a swimming and snorkeling tour—just remember to know your "manatee manners." If you have any questions, the wildlife guides are always on hand to help. You can also enjoy gorgeous views from the boardwalk and hiking trails all year round. The best way to get there is by trolley from City Hall, which is included in your admission ticket. – Tripadvisor

    Manatees
We visited this park to see the manatees and we were not disappointed. Our trip was mid January during a Florida cold spell. One the day we visited, over 200 manatees had been counted in the springs that morning. It was a sight to behold. There are volunteers at different areas along the boardwalk and they shared a lot of information about the manatees. It is easy walking along well established trails and there is a boardwalk that connects several of the springs where the manatees spend the night and early morning. Travelers tip - If you want to see a large number of manatees, plan your visit for the morning. Around mid day, the manatees leave the springs to feed in the Gulf of Mexico and return about 8 hours later to rest. There is an entrance fee but keep in mind that the money supports the wildlife.

    Where are the manatees?
Fair play - we have been advised there are no manatee sightings the day we visited, nevertheless we paid the entry and took off. You buy tickets at the centre, there is a bus that brings you to the spring , can't enter the springs with your own vehicle. Still, its a nice place for a walk. Walking around the spring, we suddenly made a manatee sighting. It made the impression this manatee was swimming towards us. It was a very nice moment.
