"Your Own Private Beach"

Ride the shuttle from Panama City Beach to Shell Island, where you can stroll along miles of white and soft sand as you spot dolphins frolicking and pelicans fishing from afar. Alternatively, make the most of your trip to the island by renting a pontoon boat to tour the area at your own pace. Swim in teal-blue waters, and don’t miss the peaceful Saint Andrew Bay on the other side of the island. Pack food, water, sunscreen, and other necessary supplies, as there are no amenities available. Also, pack a beach umbrella, as there is nothing to shade you from the Florida sun. – Tripadvisor

    Great time at Shell Island
We had a great time at Shell Island. We went with Shell Island Shuttle. I highly recommend getting there early., like 8:30am. The shuttle can run every 30min to an 1 based on how many boats they have running and the boats fill up quickly. We walked over to the “other side” aka Gulf Side. The water was crystal clear. The fish and shell finding was great. Bring what you can carry because of the walk to the gulf side…don’t bring a wagon. We packed a large bag with some towels, water, munchies and some PB&J sandwiches.

    Great day in the water!
the only way to see colorful fish is to climb over the jetty. I fell hard trying to get up there and once I got up to the top, figured out maneuvering the slippery rocks was too hard for me to manage. My husband and adult son made it and said the snorkeling was amazing. My 10yr old and I enjoying swimming on the bay side chasing after the white fish (there were a ton) and looking for crabs. Had rented a pontoon to get over there. Used Shuttle Island Pontoon rental. Were here Memorial Day week. I looked online weeks before arriving and the pontoons were sold out. Looked at other companies and they want $450 for a half day rental!! I called them because I was interesting in the kayaks (they don't do kayaks anymore) and found out there was a cancellation for a half-day rental for $200 on Memorial Day. Yipee! Everything went well. The dock was close to our condo. We were told that we weren't allowed to park there, needed to go over to the lot across the street, but could pull up and drop our stuff off. That was fine. Check in was fine. We had the boat from 8:30 to 12:30. Realized should have checked in a good 20mins before. That way, we could actually be on the boat at 8:30. Being on the water was great and having the freedom to travel the island. Boat was in great condition, no issues at all. Know that you will sign that you will not take the pontoon on the gulf side. Felt like if we had another hour, it would be perfect. A full day rental would have been too long for us. Would rent from them again. The reason that we enjoyed it so much is because we had the freedom to explore the island. We ended up anchoring 3 times. Also a big plus was we didn't walk over to the gulf side until we anchored where it was a narrow strip. That made the walk less than 3-4 minutes. Over by the kiddie pool, I could definitely see how that walk over to the gulf side could take 20mins. We brought bug spray because I read about the biting flies. Hubby didn't spray and we were all fine. Didn't see any dolphin or find any shells, but we had a great time and will be back.
