The place to see gators, up close. Too close!
Take the primary path that winds by abandoned railroad tracks and through an old barn that once serviced a working Florida cattle ranch. Follow the trail and wooden walkway to a expansive wetland that opens up to a lake. Along its shores you should find fat gators sunning themselves. You can get close enough to touch them, but I wouldn’t recommend it. They can run 45 mph but if one ever does chase you, zig-zag because they have poor eyesight. This is old Florida before the Yankees moved in. You’ll see gators if it’s sunny and not too cold. A wonderful side trip, worth the effort and time.

A long walk to the platform at Bolen Bluff trail
This was a really long walk on a cold, windy day. There is a boardwalk over water off of Highway 441 that was nice on a warmer day with towers of American White Pelicans flying. We did not see any wild horses or bison here though.
