Oasis among urban sprawl
We loved our recent stay at Oscar Scherer State Park. Yes, some spots are tight, but you can see the size before you book them. Most spots have a little privacy. I love the easy access to The Legacy Trail where you can ride from Sarasota to Venice. Back gate to the trail typically opens by 8:00 AM. Restrooms/bathhouses are dated but they are clean and well maintained. A lot of good trails in the park and a little lake and a creek that runs behind many of the campsites. This park is a nice oasis the the urban sprawl between Venice and Sarasota.

Go check it out!
Went here on a Sunday afternoon. It was quite, easy to park. It was my first time, so I only went on a couple of trails. I saw a tortoise crossing the road on the way out and had to stop (it crawled under my car, which was terrifying), but he made it out ok). I took my dog on the Lester Finely trail and then we did the Lake Osprey trail which is short (.5 mile each way) and shaded. Lots of benches along the way and stops to view the beautiful scenery. Will definitely go back! This park also connects to the Legacy Biking trail.

A beautiful park to camp at
The camp was a very nice place to stay at with many different walking trails. The lots were big and private. The camp hosts were very kind, helpful and caring. The rangers at the front desk were also very helpful. Just be aware that you need to book a site at this campground at least a year in advance. We were unaware of that, and sincerely appreciate the help given by the staff to accomodate us.
