Great Staff

wonderful staff, super friendly. Even offered me a bag for pinecones. (I got a couple to make Christmas trees out of). I'd be to make one for the ranger that was so nice as a thank you. The first confederate victory site we've been to. Nice walk and very informative signs. Peaceful. Love it.

At least the site is preserved...
This is one of the most important Black history Civil War sites and although a beautiful park it wasn't much of a battlefield park. I wasn't expecting to see a Gettysburg or Vicksburg-type park, but there is little interpretation outside the small interpretive museum on the site. A few monuments and that's it. We saw no staff on site. No one to answer any questions. Nothing to guide us around the park. Nothing to guide us to other connected sites. It was quiet and serene, but the picnic tables were a bit offensive and the trash and debris piles were not exactly inviting. At least the site is preserved and future interpretive improvements could certainly enhance the visitor's experience.

    Serene Battlefield
Open, well-marked beautiful walking trail to follow the course of the battle (about 1 mile long). Very informative and some personal accounts are moving. Visitor Center and bathrooms closed due to Covid (possibly). Visitor Center is shabby and dated but plans are for a really nice update...someday. Free.
