White Powder sand and Emerald green water

Crowds flock to the beautiful beaches on this narrow strip along Florida’s Emerald Coast for the world-class clear waters and white sugar sand. The western end of the Okaloosa has family-friendly beach parks with picnic areas and playgrounds, a boardwalk with restaurants and shops, and attractions like the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. The beaches on the eastern tip tend to be more secluded and less crowded, offering a peaceful escape. Visit in April and May for warm waters and comfortable weather or during fall when fewer crowds make for a quieter experience. Book accommodation well in advance if you plan to visit in the summer. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful Okaloosa Island
We have stayed on Okaloosa Island many times over the years, but oddly, I have not written a review until now. When we visit the Florida panhandle, we enjoy staying on Okaloosa Island. We like staying on Okaloosa Island because it is less congested than Destin, and frankly, we are not fond of the Alabama Gulf coast. Okaloosa Island is beautiful. The beaches are well maintained. Over the years we have rented condos in a few of the condo building here. The island has become more densely populated with hotels over the years. But it is still not congested like Destin. We visit Destin to eat in restaurants, but when we return to Okaloosa after visiting Destin we breathe a sigh of relief. We recommend avoiding the tourist trap Boardwalk and Okaloosa Island Pier. Instead, take a walk on this beautiful beach. Note that there are no grocery stores on the island. There is a grocery store just across the bridge in Fort Walton Beach, and it is a short drive to big box stores. The island has one convenience store and one over priced liquor store. The point is buy your groceries and adult beverages in Fort Walton Beach, Destin, or Mary Esther. Overall, we really like Okaloosa Island and we recommend it if you are planning a trip to the Florida panhandle.

    Nice Quiet Beach
After a week staying in Miramar Beach for a conference, we decided to spend our last night in the area on Okaloosa Island (we stayed at the Island Resort at Fort Walton). The beach itself is nice - wide with options for rental chairs and umbrellas ($40 for 2 chairs and an umbrella, which is a little cheaper than Miramar Beach where it was $60 for 2 chairs and an umbrella depending on the beach). The pier is nice and the boardwalk has a few different options for bars/restaurants.
