Everglades Birding, Florida, United States

4.5 (17 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Everglades National Park Nature & Wildlife Tours

Absolutely great! Skip the air boat and take a small boat or kayak.

Skip the airboat. You'll see and hear nothing. Walking and small boats or kayak trips are the way to see wildlife. The birding is great, especially if you're from another part of the country, because many species are unique to the area. As an amateur birder, I was in heaven with many first sightings for me.

Dave made our trip to the Everglades...
We did center our trip to the Everglades Nat'l Park around a birding excursion with Dave Hunt,(www.hunttheflates.com)..and was it ever worth it...prior to our arrival he had given all the information needed to choose the best day and time for us...tide/weather/mud flat predictions etc. We felt confident we were choosing the right time. Dave met us promptly as arranged, and along the way to Flamingo, stopped to give us comments on the topography and geography. We situated ourselves in his extremely clean, well cared for boat, equipped with expensive binoculars and a good scope...off we went! And what a time...first we headed toward the mud flats, saw a multitude of birds..all identified by Dave with interesting comments along the way. During our time in the flats, Dave observed an egrit in distress, he waded out to release this bird from the jaws of an Asian eel...what a fortunate bird...almost with tears in eyes...we applauded Dave's efforts and were given such insight into his passion and compassion for his surroundings. We took numerous photos and were constantly using the excellent binoculars he had given us. From there he took us to several other areas, where we continued to experience great bird viewing, get tremedous photos and converse over a multitude of topics with Dave. This experience was, for us, one of the most memorable travel experiences we have had lately, we enjoyed every moment totally, Dave gave us a rare opportunity to see the area unlike we could have otherwise, to see the birds and to discover with him this very special area, the Everglades. We simply cannot stress enough how those hours (approx 4-5)enhanced our trip and our time ....thank you, Dave...we loved it all!

    Don't miss if you're an animal/nature lover!
Dave Hunt is good people, knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. We saw everything from manatees to dolphins to ospreys to peeps to the roseate spoonbill, and much more. We saw parts of the Everglades we would never have seen otherwise, visiting the mudflats, going out on the bay and seeing the mangroves. We felt afterwards we got such a better sense of the richness of the Everglades and its inhabitants thanks to this trip. What's more, witnessing the birds we saw in their natural habitat was amazing...we saw a true bird feeding frenzy. It was quite a sight. It is a well worthwhile experience if you love nature and wildlife, and Dave is a great guide. P.S. I usually get seasick but since the boat is low to the water, five hours on the bay and I didn't feel a thing. :)
