Common Grounds Meeting Hall, Florida, United States

3.5 (3 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in North Port Concerts • Theatre & Performances

Quaint, hidden away gem!

Went to a concert here; a little obscure location in North Port. Nothing fancy inside, simple chairs set up facing a stage. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks in the back. Friendly people - all just there to enjoy some music. It was a bring your own wine/beer sort of thing. Decent acoustics and very intimate seating. Nice to be just feet from the stage. During the day, they have meetings and group space available.

Live music, intimate setting, A Gem
I first learned of the existence of the Common Grounds meeting hall a year ago. Since then I have attended six concerts there. I have been blown away by the array of live talent that the organizers have managed to assemble. Wed nights feature open night performers with a variety of musical skills and instruments. Thursdays feature Irish music, and Friday and Saturday feature professional acts (usually $10 admission). We have never been disappointed. The shows are taped for broadcast through community radio. there is no food. Water and coffee are available and you may bring your own beer or wine. The 'hall' is not fancy but has very good acoustics. The new chairs are quite comfortable. The review by Larry T is accurate. The hall is used for meetings during the day, but at night the place comes alive with glorious music, ranging from blues to country to jazz to traditional to everything in between. They have an excellent web site with calendars of performers with links to their music (usually you tube). The site is not impressive: hidden away in an ageing strip mall, but the music is excellent.

A small hole in the wall dump
If you are looking for a restaurant, keep looking. If you want to have a meeting while other people are milling around and distracting you, look no further.
