Don’t leave Bucky out

Oh, just go see Bucky. It takes 5 minutes, but he’s a treasure. We stopped by after having dinner at VIP Mexican (highly recommend). My 7 year old and my husband both got a big kick out of him. I love all the retro buildings in treasure island and Bucky used to be on top of a 1950s motel here. If you have littles, take the 5 minutes to pop by and say hi.

    Treasure Island's Hidden Pirate
    This 20 Ft Tall stature of a sword wielding pirate, a/k/a Peg-Legged Bucky The Pirate, sat on top of the Buccaneer Motel until 2005 when the motel was torn down and the statue donated to the city. Back in those days, anyone coming to Treasure Island saw this statue, it was a tradition, for instance, to bring my grandkids by it right after they came from the airport, It was part of the fun of coming to Treasure Island. Now it is hidden in a park, and most of our visitors never even get a glimpse of it during their stay. We have a clock tower in the middle of town, it breaks and costs big bucks to fix. I often wonder why this statue isn't there instead, on a pedestal. If not there, why not on a pedestal atop the Treasure Island Beach facility? Or on top of a motel?

    Goofy pirate statue
    I looked up things to do in Treasure Island and Bucky came up. It happened to be really close to the hotel I was staying at so we decided to check it out. We took a few pictures, that was it. The most disappointing thing was that we had to pay for parking. If it's close by, sure, go take your picture, but I wouldn't go too far out of your way to see it.
