Beautiful Historic Theatre/Outstanding Production

This beautifully restored art deco theater is simply wonderful. You have to admire the care with which this place has been brought back to life by a group of concerned citizens (See photos). The theater is as comfortable as it is beautiful. The seats are roomy and provide plenty of legroom between you and the next row. The stage is high and wide and deep (photos). We were fortunate to see the Broadway musical, "On Your Feet," based on the life and music of Gloria Estafan and the Miami Sound Machine. Talented cast in a wonderful production. Highly Recommended!

    Historic Miracle Mile Theater
The Miracle Theatre is a historic performing arts center located on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. It opened on December 7, 1948 with Glenn Ford in the American comedy film, The Return of October. The Miracle was originally a 1,600 seat movie house with a main floor and a raised section in the rear. It was noted for its art deco Streamline Moderne lobby, its foyer, and marquee. It operated for decades until June 23, 1978 when it was renamed Miracle Twin Theatre. It became the Miracle 4 Theatres on November 23, 1983. The City of Coral Gables purchased the historic movie house and closed it as a full time cinema on April 12, 1995. In 1988, a portion of the large former balcony became the 300 seat Balcony Theater which is used for children's theatre, smaller productions, and community cultural groups. Also on the second floor is the Black Box Studio which seats up to 100. The studio is used for experimental theater, rehearsals, educational programs, and visual arts exhibitions. In 1990, the Miracle Theater became the home of the Actor's Playhouse, a company of performers that formed in 1988. The theater underwent a 6.5 million dollar renovation which revealed the 1947 green-and-white Deco floral patterns which had been hidden under fiberglass. The lobby was refurbished with hardwood counters and wall paneling, restored Art Deco lighting fixtures and signage, and a reproduction of a 1940's carpet. Restoration of the 600-seat Mainstage auditorium was completed in 1995. The mainstages focal point is the 45 feet wide by 22 feet high proscenium.. Today the Miracle Theater is still the home of the Actor's Playhouse theater company. They have staged performances of Ragtime, West Side Story, Evita, and In the Heights. During the pandemic the theater suffered a large loss of revenue and they are still trying to get back on their feet. If you have a chance to visit, this is an important Coral Gables historic cultural arts center, well worth supporting.
