St. Anna's Tunnel / Pedestrians' Tunnel, Flanders, Belgium

Fascinating, not to be missed

This tunnel should be on be on the list of must sees for everyone who visits Antwerp. Dating back to the 1930's it is quite elegant with the Art Deco buildings, the wooden escalators and the large lift. It is very neat, clean and tidy, safe and very well used. There are also lovely views of the city from the opposite bank.

Not something that you can find easily anywhere else
This tunnel is a nice and unique experience. The escalation is wooden and I found restriction signs funny, as I come from the country that doesn't have that many bikes running at the transport. I recommend to walk the tunnel one way to get o the other side of the river, and then to take a free water bus to get back, or vice versa.

A must to when you visit Antwerp!
This tunnel is an easy way to reach the two sides of the city of Antwerp. At the right side you have the old city. The left side is more a neighborhood, but gives you a perfect view towards the old city. They started to build this tunnel in 1931 and it was finished in 1933. So it's an iconic place. It's often used for fotoshoots, films, videoclips ... The wooden escalators are still authentic.
