A wonderful and informative museum
A very cool museum to visit, especially coming in as Americans whose great-grandparents all emigrated from Europe either as children or young adults in the early 1900’s. While none of mine came through here (that I know of), more than 3 million did come through these buildings. Just being inside and thinking about the sheer number of people through here leaving the old country for the US is a little chilling. How many dreams of a fresh start in a new place stood right where we stood? The museum walks you through the process that all these emigrants would have gone through just to be able to get on the ships to take them across the Atlantic. Some amazing artifacts and stories. Absolutely worth a couple of hours for us to come here.

When we arrived at the museum, we got appointed a tour guide who showed us around and gave additional information. The tour guide was certainly a must, since you easily get lost in all the different stages involved in the migration process. The museum itself is thoughtfully restored. They succeeded in maintaining its historical value while making a thoughtful tour. It was rather impressive to see the main hall and try to understand how the thousands of people waiting to move felt. A must-do while visiting Antwerp.

Quite enjoyable
This tour is incredibly well put together. It's about immigration to America during the 19th and 20th centuries. There is this interactive screen that shows how painfully long people had to travel to get there. The museum has a bunch of unique props and artifacts from actual people who traveled with the Red Star Line. My only problem was that certain places were quite loud. Like there was this installation of TVs in a circle you can stand in but the noise of the speakers was too loud that the guide became inaudible. Overall a fun experience.
